FAQs

what is chinese medicine?

Chinese medicine, a time-honoured holistic medical system, offers a comprehensive approach to health and well-being. Rooted in ancient wisdom, it encompasses various modalities such as acupuncture, herbal medicine, cupping, and lifestyle adjustments. Chinese medicine views the body as an interconnected system, striving to restore balance and harmony within.

By stimulating various acupuncture points using sterile single use needles, we improve the flow of "vital energy" or Qi (pronounced "chee") within the patient's body. Chinese medicine aims to address not only symptoms but also the underlying imbalances.

how does it work?

Acupuncture is believed to work by stimulating the body's natural healing processes and promoting the release of various neurotransmitters and hormones that can help to reduce pain and inflammation. While the exact mechanisms of acupuncture are not yet fully understood, its effectiveness in promoting injury recovery, increased circulation and reducing stress levels has been supported by a growing body of research.

what can acupuncture help with?

Whether you seek relief from pain, improved energy, enhanced fertility, or overall wellness, Chinese medicine provides personalised and effective solutions to support your journey towards optimal health.

Commonly treated complaints are: Energy levels/general well being, digestive complaints, mental health problems, stress, arthritis pain, immune system support, headaches, hay fever, cancer care, insomnia, concussion symptoms and more.

Do the needles hurt?

The needles used are extremely thin, and their insertion usually results in minimal discomfort. Many people do not even notice them being inserted. Once in, a dull ache is a usual sensation and evidence that the needles are ‘talking’ to your brain. Most patients find it deeply relaxing and snoring is a common sound effect in the clinic!

IS ACUPUNCTURE DURING PREGNANCY SAFE? CHOOSING THE RIGHT PROVIDEr

When delivered by an experienced practitioner, acupuncture during pregnancy is safe. Acupuncture training usually covers the basics of obstetrics, however delivering safe and effective treatment to expectant individuals in this specialty generally necessitates post-graduate training. It is crucial to inquire about an acupuncturist's credentials and proficiency to ensure that you select one with the proper education and expertise in treating pregnancy. It is important to confirm that any practitioner you choose is aware of the safety concerns and limitations associated with this treatment.

how many treatments will i need ?

The length of your treatment will depend on many factors, including the specific condition, its severity, how long it has been present, and your commitment to dietary and lifestyle changes. For example an acute injury tends to heal more quickly than chronic pain or condition. After conducting an initial assessment, I will provide a treatment plan and timeline. Typically, we evaluate your response to treatments after 2-5 sessions to gauge progress and make any necessary adjustments.

what shall I wear?

Wear something loose fitting or stretchy if possible. Commonly used acupuncture points are located on the arms, lower legs and back.

Treatment for injuries usually also require needles at the site of injury, towels are used for your comfort and discretion.

how long will the treatment last?

First treatments are typically longer, allow 60-90 mins for an initial consultation for a private treatment, follow up sessions are between 45 mins-1 hour. Initial ACC treatments are 1 hour, follow up appointments are between 40 mins-1 hour, depending on the condition being treated.
